Communication in the Central Pacific Conference

How do we share news about the Central Pacific Conference?  In 2006, 2,589 local church members across the CPC were opening their mailboxes each month to grab a copy of the national UCC newspaper, with a dedicated insert for our Conference.  This mailing list was built up over years of publication.  The switch to electronic communication delivered a huge blow to our mailing list.  Following recommended procedures to limit spam email, people were asked to subscribe to the electronic newsletter.  Some did.  Many did not.  From the high of 2,589 receiving the hard copy, we now email to a list of 426, a decrease of 84%!  Some of our churches do forward copies of On the Way to their church members, so the numbers might not be quite so grim.

I’m asking for your help.  Please encourage your church members to subscribe to On the Way, and other news from the Central Pacific Conference by going to www.cpcucc.org.  The mailing list subscription form is in the right sidebar.  We have 7,000+ members in our local churches in the CPC.  Our e-mail list should be 3 or 4 thousand.  Encourage your members to subscribe, or ask your Board to give you permission to share your church email list with the CPC.  Thanks!

You know that for many years, the United Church of Christ published a monthly newspaper, United Church News.  The Central Pacific Conference participated in this publication with a dedicated insert, celebrating the ministry of our Conference and promoting upcoming events.  This newspaper was distributed free to all church members who subscribed.  The cost was underwritten by the conferences and the national UCC.  In 2007, faced with increasing postage and production costs, the CPC Board of Directors voted to cease publication of our insert.  Two years later, dealing with the same financial pressures, our denomination ceased distribution of a paper copy of United Church News.  The publication is now on-line: http://www.ucc.org/news.  You can also subscribe to a UCC news-alert: Keeping You e-posted: http://www.ucc.org/news/keeping-you-eposted.

  • I forward On The Way to my e-mail list of parishioners. This seems more appropriate than sharing my church e-mail list. My board would want to ask each member if their e-mail addresses can be shared. We have promised them that it would not be a shared mailing list. My list reaches about 100 UCC folk.
