CPC at Portland Pride Festival

Friends and Colleagues,

The Portland Pride Festival and Parade are this coming weekend, July 20 & 21.  There are many ways to bear witness to an inclusive Christian tradition and we need your presence!  Pride saves lives.  And while there are conversations to be had about corporate sponsorships and diminishing religious participation, the fact remains that one on one conversations have an impact, often a healing and restorative impact.  Your being present in person at the festival matters!  Here's how you can help…

Portland Pride Festival - Saturday, July 20 & Sunday, July 21 at Waterfront Park

UCC booth: We'll be in #2, on the north side of the festival toward the river.   We'll still need folx for set-up & take down, as well as in 3 hour shifts between noon & 8 on Saturday, & 11:30 & 6 on Sunday.  To sign up, please email or text Rev. T [revtara@bridgeportucc.org or 503-484-3609].

The Parade on Sunday -- Step off time is 11 AM

We're marching with the Lutheran & Episcopal contingents in spot 106.   The staging area can be found on NW Park between Davis & Everett.

For all events, clergy are encouraged to wear identifiable clothing (clergy shirts, stoles, etc.).  Religious positive tee shirts are also great.  Remember that the dominate religious voice is anti-gay, so in whatever way we can, we want to send a message that says that the United Church of Christ celebrates Pride and is willing to stand/march among the LGBTQAI+ community.

If you have questions or would like more information, please don't hesitate to reach out.

In solidarity,

Rev. T
